With obesity at an all-time high in this country and the economy being in such an equally dismal state, it is no wonder that fewer people are playing golf these days. The growing popularity in golf brought around by Tiger Wood’s success in the late 90’s has dwindled and fewer people are playing golf now. For new golfers, however, this is a great situation. Fewer golfers on the courses and on the driving ranges means that prices have dropped, there are more tee times, and lesson are even cheaper. So, there has never been a better time to learn to play golf!

In no other sport are people as superstitious as in golf. Every golfer has a variety of golf hints, golf thoughts, or swing thoughts that they employ at various times in their golfing career. A golf hint, in general, is something that was used at the time a good swing was made, and by association alone, is accepted as the reason for the good swing. In other words, I thought about keeping my head still, I had a great swing, so the great swing is because I thought about my head. That is faulty logic!
People often accept golf hints from professionals and naturally assume that they will work for them, a golfer who plays but once a month. Golfers alone are peculiar animals, insisting they get golf hints from the most athletic and accomplished of all golfers in the world. A swimmer would never accept swimming hints from Michael Phelps – because we all know that we could never be like him. However, every golfer believes that they really could be Tiger Woods if they practiced long enough and were given the chance.

Take a look at the arms on Camilo Villegas. Those are not the forearms and biceps of a golfer. Those are the guns of a superbly fit athlete. Golf was once a game played by overweight, unfit, cigar-smoking, drinking older men. It is now the younger, fitter, and stronger golfers who are taking the lead. Tiger Woods lifts weights on a regular basis and is believed to be perhaps the fittest athlete on the tour. This, in part, explains why he dominates.
