Business on the Golf Course

Posted by Rob Jeffries

There’s probably no better place in the world to conduct business than on the golf course.  Business executives all over the world know that sharing a common frustration with their golf game promotes the perfect environment for business talk.  More partnerships and businesses have been changed on the golf course than you could ever imagine.

When you are conducting business on the golf course, you have the luxury of sharing a common goal – to beat each other.  Yet at the same time, when you are playing with business associates on the golf course, you really need to practice some decorum when playing golf with a potential business affiliate.

So how do you balance business with sport on the golf course?  Unfortunately, there is no easy answer to this question.  Just as with any decision in business, you have to weigh the outcome with what is happening.  If you are trying to land a big account, you probably won’t want to make fun of your potential client’s missed chip shot.

However, you won’t want to gain a reputation as a suck-up either.  If your potential client makes a 7 on a par 3 hole, you really don’t want to whoop and holler because it will be obvious you are just trying to stroke his (or her) ego.  Conducting business on the golf course is a delicate proposition, so start with a plan in mind.

DO NOT – and we stress this a lot – DO NOT begin your golf match with a declaration of what you hope to accomplish by the end of the round.  If you want to insure that you will be landing that big account, don’t put on your golf glove on tee #1 and declare your intention.  The idea behind conducting business on the golf course is to make friends first and then do your business.

As you are playing, keep in mind that you will want to bring your “A” game as much as is humanly possible.  Sure, you might be playing against a person who is head and shoulders above you, but if you are the better player, DON’T let them win just because you want to gain their business.  Play golf like you mean it and gain that prospect’s respect.

There is much business that is done on the golf course every day of every week.  You won’t find a better place to make a business deal than on the links.  However, you will want to use some form of decorum to insure that your business goals will come to reality.  Taking business on the golf course could be the best business decision you ever make!

Junior Golf Clubs

Posted by Rob Jeffries

Do you have a son or daughter who would like to learn how to play golf?  Get them started with junior golf clubs.  It’s important to get your little one started with clubs that are right for them no matter what age they begin at.

Junior golf clubs are perfect for kids that want to start playing golf at a very young age or those who fall in love with this noble sport in their early teenage years. Obviously it is impossible for a child or young teenager who is shorter than an adult to use a normal sized set of golf clubs, so they have to have something that is more suitable for their height, size and strength.

Junior golf clubs are usually smaller and lighter. To an adult using them, it may seem that playing with them is a little bit harder than when using regular clubs, because their decreased weight causes the drives to be much shorter. Kids need to understand that the reason they cannot hit the ball so far is partly due to the club. It is not necessarily a reflection on their own strength.

Golf is a game that requires a lot of patience on many levels. Kids must be patient too, and understand that if they learn a good clean swing with a club that is right for them now, their drive will automatically lengthen as they grow and move on to use heavier clubs. Their focus should be on improving their accuracy, not hitting as hard as they can. You can help a lot by explaining this kind of thing to them while they are learning.

Another great thing to remember is that children get discouraged pretty easily, and that is why, if you want them to keep practicing, they have to have comfortable equipment that is straight forward and they can easily use it. If you do not make sure they are comfortable, they will get totally discouraged and will never play golf ever again.  That is why the selection of junior golf clubs, although they may seem less important than adult clubs, is really so very crucial.

Kids’ golf clubs do not have to be expensive. Remember they will only fit a child for a few years, and some kids even get tired of the game before that, so you can often pick up a good used set for cheap. Just be sure they are the right size for your child. Don’t buy something that is too big or too small just because of the price.

If you are able to fit the clubs perfectly well, you will make sure that your small golfers-to-be are happy. This will encourage them to play more and keep fit and healthy out of doors instead of spending too much time watching TV, or doing something even less productive.

Golf is a great sport, and it can be an outstanding source of activity and inspiration to children. If you remember that, you will make it very easy for them to just continue playing forever, and who knows, maybe they will become the next Tiger Woods or at least have a lifetime of enjoyment and better health ahead of them.

As parents it is important to make sure that if our children practice any sport, and golf especially, they have the right equipment.  Junior golf clubs are a perfect solution that will enable your little ones to enjoy the game of golf as much as they should.

Golf Fitness Training on a Budget

Posted by Rob Jeffries

Playing golf can get very expensive; a good set of clubs will cost a lot of money, the shoes and all the gear, not to mention the cost of a round of golf. In many ways it is a wealthy person’s sport, at least if you want to get really good. But, there are ways you can improve your game and have more fun while still working within a budget. An easy way to save money is to invest in golf fitness training, which is a method of improving your strength  for the sport of golf without having to pay the high price of a trainer.

Hiring a personal trainer in any gym or fitness center, or even at your local golf course can cost upwards of $100 per hour, and in that one hour you probably won’t get much instruction. They will run you through a few stretches, maybe do a little resistance training or weight lifting, and then send you on your way. If you want to learn golf fitness training, you almost always have to go to a trainer who specializes in this.

But, the problem with this is that most personal trainers that specialize in golfers are very expensive and not so easy to come by. Another issue with them is that they have been trained to deal with the best golfers, in the best physical condition, and not someone who is in mid-life and has not been working out for years!

In general, the best golf fitness training you can find is online at this present time. There are several websites that specialize in offering this kind of instruction. So, whether you are a young, agile golfer, or you are retired and just want to up your game a bit, a small investment in online golf training could well be worth the money.

It’s Never Too Late to Learn to Play Golf

Posted by Rob Jeffries

With obesity at an all-time high in this country and the economy being in such an equally dismal state, it is no wonder that fewer people are playing golf these days. The growing popularity in golf brought around by Tiger Wood’s success in the late 90’s has dwindled and fewer people are playing golf now. For new golfers, however, this is a great situation. Fewer golfers on the courses and on the driving ranges means that prices have dropped, there are more tee times, and lesson are even cheaper. So, there has never been a better time to learn to play golf!
