5 Super Tips for Chipping Golf

Posted by Rob Jeffries

Are you having problems getting your close golfing shots close enough? In fact, chipping golf remains one of the most challenging shots for some golfers. By using the right technique, you can save multiple shots on a hole. Here are some tips to make an effective chip shot:

1. Place most of your weight onto your left foot. You should place roughly three-fourths of your weight onto your left foot. Meanwhile, the ball should be located near the back of your position. Your hands should be situated ahead of the ball.

2. Use your hands to lead the face of the club. Do this as the club contacts the ball. The majority of botched chipping golf shots happen when the clubhead goes beyond the hands. This causes it to move while swinging upward, rather than contacting the ball as it drops.

3. Keep your wrist under wraps.
When making a chip shot, your wrists shouldn’t control the shot. This can prevent the shot from traveling a few inches or zooming past the green. So remember that the key word is: control!

4. Use a mental technique. This will help you to make a successful chip shot. Imagine an imaginary straight line that extends upwards from the ball. Place your hands in front of it. Then focus on moving the grip and shaft beyond that line–prior to contacting to ball.

5. Hit the ball, not your body. Here’s a practice tip. Grasp the golfing club far down the shaft, and perform a practice chip. If the handle strikes you then you aren’t controlling your wrists properly. Meanwhile, by using the correct wrist action the club will remain far your body.
