So You Want an Over the Top Golf Swing

If you’re a golfer, you’ve probably seen him. The guy who, every time, manages the most amazing over-the-top golf swing you’ve ever seen. He is the god of the green; the ladies want to be with him and guys want to be him.

Believe it or not, you too can manage an over-the-top golf swing. All it takes is a little guidance and practice. The most important step is finding the right golf guide. While more detailed golf technique is best learned from expert sources (there are lots of books, including ebooks, on the subject), here are a few brief tips that will help you work toward developing your very own over-the-top golf swing.

Stance. If your stance is no good, your swing won’t be either. You need to build a solid  foundation first. Most of your weight (about ninety percent) should be on your left foot, with  the rest of your weight balanced lightly on your right toe. If you try to maintain this weight     distribution, you will see great improvements in your swing. (Tip: If you’re doing it right, your  right toe should be getting dirty.)

Flexibility. A good golf swing involves a great deal of rotation from your trunk. If your muscles   here are tight, you’re not going to be able to hit the ball with all the power of your body, and  your swing will suffer. A good way to work on this is to stretch regularly (you could even try yoga!). Focus on exercises which involve keeping your knees facing forward while your torso  turns from the hips. The more flexible your trunk, the more powerful your shot will be.

Alignment. Pay attention to the way the club face aligns with the ball. The face should always be square to the ball, and failing to pay attention to this is one of the most frequent problems faced by amateurs.

These tips are just meant to get you started; if you really want to perfect an over-the-top golf swing, the keys are research (find a good golf guide) and practice. If you really want it and are willing to work for it, an over-the-top golf swing can be yours.

    Good Information, thanks. After a life time of playing golf, it is still amazing how, just when you begin to get a little bit complacement and you think you have "cracked" this game..it comes back very sharply and bites you. One of the key elements which catches most people out is the grip pressure. In my experience, when I consciously think about relaxing the grip pressure to around 4 out of 10, (where 10 is a vice-like grip), that is when it I get a really great shot. Straight and long, as the unhinging of a RELAXED grip allows the club head to do what it is designed to do with the weight in the head being allowed to do the work, rather than "forcing" the downswing with the hands. What does anyone else think about this, I would really like to hear from you?
